All Hail the Queen!
Up until a few weeks ago, I hadn’t been to the Ohio Renaissance Festival since middle school. I remember it being a fun field trip in school, but did not expect as much excitement as an adult. After visiting, I stand corrected. The Ohio Renaissance Festival has live entertainment, food, music, shopping, games and more!
The feel of the 16th century is immediate upon entering the festival. The ground is dusty, the goods are handmade, and the spirits are plentiful. You won’t find anything electric in this festival, so be sure to charge all your electronics beforehand. Even the rides are run by man-power.
All of the goods available for sale at the festival are handmade and one of a kind. You won’t find any of your purchases from the Renaissance Festival in your everyday Wal-Mart. The products aren’t the only authentic finding at this festival. The jousting is 100% full force and for keeps. The festival’s jousters - including World Champion and host of TV's "Full Metal Jousting", Shane Adams - don’t hold anything back in their live performance. The horses, armor and lances are all real and are used at full force!
The Festival is full of characters from knights to fire jugglers who seem like they were plucked straight out of history. To me, the most fascinating character in the festival is her majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Those that know me would find this as no surprise. She wears a beautiful gown and extravagantly decorated crown as she wanders the festival gracing her court, servants, and guests. If I were a member of the festival's cast, I would definitely want to be the Queen. It is her festival, after all, and she is entertained and waited on hand and foot by the rest of the village.
Don’t miss your chance to meet the Queen! Head to Warren County and take a day to be part of history as it comes alive. The festival is open weekends until October 21st from 10:30 a.m. until 6p.m. Here's an important tip: Don’t wear your most expensive shoes, because they will get dusty!
