East Central Ohio One-Day Golf Itinerary
Ohio’s East Central region offers travelers a retreat from the workaday world. Among the world’s largest Amish community, the pace of life is slower here. Your nerves will be calmed and your golf game just might improve in this preserve of peacefulness.
DAY 1:
Fly into the Akron/Canton airport, or drive into the heart of Ohio’s Amish country, Millersburg. Enjoy a country breakfast, then break out your golf clubs for a challenging day on the links.
Where to golf: You’ll have to draw on your serene surroundings to surmount the wickedly difficult Black Diamond Golf Course in Millersburg. Its cascading fairways and tiered greens will have tax your mental powers, and you’ll have to hit hard and straight to approach par on this course. But if you can make it through the course with your sanity intact, you’ll already be planning your next visit.
Where to stay: The Inn at Honey Run offers inn rooms from $99 and unique “honeycomb” rooms from $134. Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed and Breakfast in Millersburg has quiet, garden themed rooms from $89.
What else to do: Take advantage of your location in the midst of Ohio’s Amish country. Stop at a roadside stand for a fresh baked pie, attend a livestock auction, or watch the horses and buggies trot by on a lazy afternoon. Learn more about the unique culture with a guided tour. For a more cosmopolitan experience, head to Canton to take in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and McKinley National Memorial and Museum. |
