DAY 1:
You’ll arrive in Toledo, at the western end of Lake Erie. Before you hit the links, take an early morning look at the world famous Hippoquarium at the award winning Toledo Zoo. Just east of town, you’ll find one of the state’s most relaxing parks, the lakeside Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon.
Where to golf: The park is home to a great, affordable golf course, Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course. Designed by Arthur Hills in 1991, Maumee Bay Golf Course rests on 1,850 acres of protected wetlands inside Maumee Bay State Park, along Ohio's beautiful north coast. Adorned with its tall fescue, the links course challenges golfers of all skill levels. The par-72, 6,941-year course is a favorite among local golfers and has received acclaim as one of the country's best golf values. In addition to the championship links, Maumee Bay Golf Course facilities include a clubhouse, snack bar and full-service practice facility. Eighteen holes will cost $32.75-$38.75.
Where to stay: The park also hosts the Maumee Bay Resort and Conference Center in Oregon, with beautiful beach- and lake-front rooms from $111. Or for some city living, try the Wyndham Hotel Toledo, in downtown Toledo, from $84.
What else to see: A few miles down the coast lie the Lake Erie Islands, where a vibrant winery culture, great beaches, historic landmarks and unique geological formations delight visitors. And a bit further east, in Sandusky, is Cedar Point, one of the world’s best amusement parks, which is home to one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters in the world, among 15 other coasters. |
