Northwest Ohio One-Day Golf Itinerary

At the eastern edge of America’s Great Plains, Ohio’s Northwest region offers bountiful opportunities for an exciting and educational family getaway. Among the softly undulating countryside, you’ll find a golfing experience like no other.

DAY 1:

To begin your golf experience in northwestern Ohio, arrive in Findlay, also known as Flag City USA.

Where to golf: Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay is an 18-hole, par 72, upscale public, 7000-yard course. Bentgrass tees, fairways and greens built according to USGA specifications provide excellence in golf. Red Hawk Lake and Eagle Lake will haunt you, and six of the holes will challenge you to navigate across a menacing creek. The cost for 18 holes varies from $15 to $45.

Where to stay: Zelkova Country Manor, an historic bed and breakfast in nearby Tiffin, offers eight guestrooms from $75-$150. The Fairfield Inn in Findlay has rooms for $50-$80.

What else to see: If you’re feeling adventurous, just a few miles west of Findlay lies Gilboa Quarry, where you can practice rock climbing, snorkeling and scuba diving. In the 14-acre quarry, you’ll find some interesting “shipwrecks” including a plane and a school bus. For a more laid back adventure in learning, head north to Archbold, home of Sauder Village, where you can experience life on a 19 th century farm. Or celebrate the outdoors at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park, Ohio’s largest inland lake, which offers a plethora of wet and wild activities. And after that, take in a bit of Ohio heritage at the Piatt Castles, in West Liberty. These massive structures were built in the 19 th century by two industrialist brothers.
