Southwest Ohio One-Day Golf Itinerary

With its historical importance and beautiful countryside, Drive or fly into the Queen City, Cincinnati. This Ohio River town is undergoing a revitalization, and its new attractions will amaze those who visited even a short while ago.

DAY 1:

Head northeast of Cincinnati to Warren County. With dozens of nationally important historic sites and attractions offering thrills for the whole family, Warren County is a no-brainer for a family getaway. The green hills and deep canyons are a natural fit for some of the best golf courses in the nation.

Where to golf: The scenic views at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon are breathtaking! The bentgrass tees, fairways and greens look like emeralds in the natural settings. The o riginal 18 holes of this 27-hole course were designed by Arthur Hills, a world-renowned golf course architect. The par-72, 6,991-yard Shaker Run has been rated one of Ohio’s best public golf courses. Eighteen holes will cost $41-$76.

Where to stay: At Golden Lamb Inn in Lebanon you might get the room that housed John Quincy Adams or Mark Twain, from $67. At the Cincinnati Marriott Northeast in Mason, relax in the lap of luxury from $160.

What else to see: In Warren County, there are plenty of thrilling activities, including Paramount’s King’s Island, a theme park that’s home to more than 80 rides and attractions, including the world’s longest wooden roller coaster, and The Beach, a 35-acre waterpark with more than 40 rides. Warren County also is home to historical sites, including Fort Ancient, a prehistoric Native American hilltop enclosure, and the Warren County Historical Society Museum, where numerous Shaker artifacts are on display.

DAY 2:

Head south from Warren County, past horse farms and rushing streams to Batavia, in Clermont County.

Where to golf: Situated on 163 acres of lush rolling hills, Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia is a championship course that is both challenging and enjoyable to play. Utilizing bentgrass greens, tees and fairways, this par-71 Greg Norman design takes advantage of rolling hills and creeks to provide a course that works within its natural characteristics. This only maximizes its beauty and difficulty. Elks Run boasts a wonderful mix that is not only visually appealing, but also fun to play. The first nine holes have the openness associated with traditional links, which lead to the wooded side of the course and six par-four holes. The course features an unusually thick first cut of rough as well as formidable native grasses. This makes for challenging play as these grasses, which tower a whopping foot tall, abound on virtually every hole. The cost of 18 holes is $85.

Where to stay: Downtown Cincinnati offers many great lodging options, including the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, with rooms from $160 and the Millennium Hotel, starting at $99.

What else to see: A few miles due east from Batavia is Cincinnati. Visit the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal - three museums in one refurbished art-deco train station! Catch a Reds game at the new Great American Ballpark. Then learn the story of the escape from slavery at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Kayak along the Ohio River, view historic presidential sites, or just kick back and relax with a bowl of Cincinnati’s famous Gold Star Chili.
